Hope Cemetery in Barre, Vermont, is full of unique and beautiful statuary. This photograph is a detail of one of the headstones, and what struck me immediately was the beautiful light. The sunlight was coming from the side, and that embellished the texture and the lines of the artwork dramatically. I used a 200mm focal length to shoot this, and the settings were 1/500, f/5.6, and 125 ISO. In looking at this critically, I should have used a smaller lens aperture because the lower left corner isn't sharp and it should be. I needed more depth of field. Having said that, most of our attention is directed to the sorrowful face and the perfectly placed hand, so that small out of focus portion is hardly noticed.
