One of the most amazing birds in the world has to be this one -- Lady Amherst's pheasant. It is native to China, but I photographed it in the Bali Bird Park in Indonesia. Even though it was in captivity -- in a huge aviary -- it was very hard to capture a good image of it. It was constantly running all over the place, and the natural light was quite dim. You can tell from the ISO how dark it was. I took some shots in which I included the legs and feet, but for this composition I zoomed in tight to focus attention on the stunning feather design. My settings were 1/400, f/5.6, 5000 ISO, and I used my 100-400mm telephoto. In post-processing, I applied Neat Image software to eliminate the noise. Notice that even in extreme low light, I insisted on a shutter speed to freeze any movement. The last thing I wanted was a picture that was 'almost' sharp.
