This is a black-tufted marmoset, a very small primate that lives in the rainforest canopy in Brazil. Interestingly, their main food source is tree sap. They are rarely seen, and I was able to take only two shots before it melted into the forest. I usually plan my trips to Brazil for the first week in November (which it the cusp of the rainy season) specifically to have diffused light. Brazil straddles the Equator which means the overhead sun is especially harsh. In this case, the sky was blue and I only had direct sunlight to work with. As much as I prefer soft lighting, the sunlight brought out the unique colors of this beautiful animal. I used a 500mm f/4 Canon lens for the shot, and my camera settings were 1/1000, f/7.1, and 1250 ISO.
