I photographed this young leopard whose eyes were still blue in the Masa Mara National Reserve in Kenya. The cat was on a small rise, so even though I was shooting from a vehicle in which I was seated about six feet above the ground, the picture shows an eye-level perspective. This is what I always hope for when on safari. I took this with a Canon 500mm f/4 telephoto, and my settings were 1/1600, f/6.3, and 8000. I could have cut the shutter speed in half and still obtained a sharp picture, but in recent years and I am using faster speeds to make sure everything is as tack sharp as possible. I got tired of pictures that were 'almost' tack sharp. With the ability now for the newer cameras to handle noise very well, and with the remarkable post-processing software we now have to eliminate noise if it does occur (like Topaz DeNoise and Neat Image), I don't worry about this problem and feel comfortable using ISO settings that just a few years ago made photographs unusable.
