In Bukhara, Uzbekistan I photographed a dance performance and fashion show. The problem was the background behind the models was not complimentary at all. The only way to artistically elevate the images of the performers was to replace the background or to place a model or dancer in another environment. That's what I did here. I selected the model with the quick selection tool in Photoshop and pasted her into the stunning facade of a 14th century mausoleum I'd photographed two days earlier. The blue color throughout the image makes a striking composite, I feel, and the fact that the light on the model matches the diffused light on the architecture produced a believable image. I used a 24-105mm lens for the background and a 100-400mm telephoto for the model as I sat in the audience.
