My photo tour group photographed a blacksmith at work yesterday in Bukhara, Uzbekistan. To capture the streaks of sparks as he pounded the heated metal, I used 1/8 second exposure with the camera mounted on a tripod. Had the camera not been stabilized on the tripod, the streaks would have appeared jiggly, even in the short amount of time the shutter was open. The blacksmith was slightly blurred because of the motion of his body, so I took another picture of him with a faster shutter and then replaced the unsharp version by cloning from one picture to another. I used a fast frame rate -- 14 fps in my case -- so I wouldn't miss any of the nuances of the flying sparks. My lens aperture was f/14, and the ISO was 640. I used a 16-35mm lens for this shot.
