Because an attractive background makes such a difference in a photograph, many times when I'm photographing a strong subject I also capture background images at the same time. This insures the same light and, when I put together a composite, it makes more sense than if I chose a background from another location. In this instance, I photographed the bobcat in which the background forest was busy and somewhat out of focus. The trees provided the kind of background one would expect, but they reallly weren't pleasing to the eye. So, using Topaz Mask AI, I selected the cat and replaced the jumble of branches, trunks, and patches of snow with a distant landscape from the same area. Now the picture shows a sense of place, has remarkable depth, and is much more visually compelling -- at least, in my opinion. My settings for the bobcat shot were 1/1600, f/16, and 6400 ISO. I took this picture with the Canon 100-500mm telephoto.
