The unusual expression on the face of this bobcat kitten, plus the extended claws, caught my attention when I was photographing during one of my wildlife photo workshops. Many animals have blue eyes when they are young, and that adds to the visual impact of baby animals. The kitten was in the shade, but the background was brightly lit by the sun. Therefore, I made a rough selection of the upper right corner with the lasso tool, feathered the edge 20 pixels, and then darkened and desaturated the yellow/green color so it didn't take attention away from the cat's face. The other problem with original capture was the lower right corner of the frame was completely out of focus. Since I don't like soft foregrounds, I cloned the sharp bark at the far left over the blurred branch in the lower right. My settings were 1/400, f/5.6, and 1250 ISO, and I used a 100-400mm Canon zoom for the shot.
