I photographed these bobcat kittens during one of my North American wildlife workshops. It was essential that both of the cats be equidistant to the camera -- in other words, on the same plane -- because telephoto lenses are unforgiving in terms of depth of field when used close to the subject. Had one of the kittens been less than sharp, the picture would have been a failure in my opinion. I used a relatively small aperture, f/11, to help mitigate any possible loss in sharpness in case they weren't exactly equidistant. The focal length that captured this shot was 349mm on a 100-400mm Canon zoom, and I was probably about 15 feet away. That tells you the depth of field was pretty narrow. My other settings were 1/250th of a second and 1000 ISO.
