This is Elephant Island off the coast of Antarctica. I took the picture from a dinghy, and because we were low to the water my biggest concern was making sure no salt water splashed onto my camera. Even a single drop can kill anything electronic -- kill it so dead there would be no hope of repair. The surface of the water was rough, and that made it especially scary. The calved icebergs from the huge glacier have been rounded by the wave action over many years. The scene was surreal, almost like being on another planet. My settings were 1/1000, f/14, and 320 ISO. Fortunately there was enough light for the fast shutter, which froze the movement of the boat. The bright light also made possible a lens aperture small enough to allow me to capture complete depth of field. Landscapes and seascapes, in my opinion, require everything to be sharp. I used a 24-105mm lens set to 97mm for this shot.
