One of the reasons I use the hotel I do in Venice is because of this room. It is a great interior environment in which to photograph costumed models. It is traditional Venetian decor in which the walls are covered in fine fabric. I use only available light -- two large windows, a chandelier, and two sconces. Many of my clients asked for me to turn off the sconces -- they felt the two bright lights were distracting -- but I liked them. Nevertheless, most of the time I turned them off for the clients. In this picture, however, I asked the model to hide the sconce with her fan. In this way, I created a glow around the fan plus there was some spill light on her. My settings were 1/100, f/4.0, and 2000 ISO, and I shot this with a 16-35mm wide angle lens.
