Bruges, Belgium is perhaps the most beautiful medieval city in Europe. There are pictures to be taken at every corner. To see and appreciate the artistry that architects hundreds of years ago took to embellish their buildings is fascinating, and it makes for wonderful pictures. The most striking photography is at twilight because Bruges, like virtually all European cities, is illuminated with great artistry every evening. This view of the Belfry of Bruges, which opened in 1486, is one of the best shots in the city. This 16mm shot includes the Church of Our Lady Bruges that dates from the 13th century. My settings were .8 seconds, f/8, and 400 ISO. I used daylight white balance, and it's a single exposure. I often use HDR at twilight, but not here.

Jim Zuckerman.com - It's cold here now too, Barbara. But I agree with you. The city is so beautiful that you focus all the attention on the photography not the weather. There are pictures everywhere.

Jim Zuckerman - It is fairly cold right now as well, Barbara. But I agree with you. The city is so beautiful that all attention gets focused on the photography as opposed to the weather. Pictures everywhere.

Barbara Vickers - Thanks for this Jim. I was in Bruges for one cold, rainy October day - but it was so beautiful I didn't want to leave.
