Burano Island in Venice offers wonderful backgrounds for costumed models. This facade is one of my favorites. After I took straight-on shots, I used a 24-105mm lens off to the side to include the neighbor's green house and to create oblique lines that I think add interest to the picture. The soft light was perfect for this outdoor portrait, and I especially like the combination of greens and the weathered texture of the architecture. My settings were 1/160, f/22, 2500 ISO. I used a small lens aperture, even though the focal length was 24mm, because I wanted to make sure the entire image was sharp from the immediate foreground to the green wall in the background. I generally don't like shallow depth of field when it comes to architecture.

Jim - Thanks, Ian. Venice during carnival is amazing for a photographer. Truly exciting to shoot.
