Carnival in Venice

This is my wife, Dia, in a costume she made for carnival in Venice. The music room in this 15th century palace is the perfect backdrop, and I only used available light. The extreme distortion was caused by the 14mm ultra wide angle lens I used. Note how large Dia is in proportion to the rest of the image. That happened because I was shooting from just four feet away, making the foreground disproportionately large compared to the background. My lens aperture was f/2.8, yet the depth field is extensive due to the nature of extreme wide angle lenses. I took this with a tripod, and the shutter speed was 1/6th of a second. The ISO was 1000. I let the windows blow out because there was nothing outside worth seeing, to be honest. Every year I photograph models in this room because it's one of the best medieval interiors in Venice.
