I took this shot in Venice during carnival. It took a lot of arranging. First, I had to find a canal with a classic Venetian background such that adjacent buildings blocked the canal from direct sunlight. Diffused light prevented too much contrast and unwanted shadows and highlights. Then I had to arrange with a gondolieri who was willing to accommodate my photo tour group. Two by two we get into the gondola and go up and down the canal shooting the models. Not all gondolieri are willing to do this. Then I had to find models with costumes I liked for the boat and have them agree to participate. Finally, I had to choose additional costumed models for the bridge. I shot this with a 24mm focal length, and my settings were 1/80, f/5.6, and 200 ISO. The original sky was white, so I added the dark clouds. My next Venice photo workshop will be Feb. 18-25, 2022.
