This portrait is from my Carnival in Venice series. I photographed the model, Myriam Melham, on the sofa in a large, cavernous room in a 15th century palace. The background was too cluttered for my taste, so I also photographed a section of wall art in the room. Then, in post-processing, I placed that behind the model using the pen tool to meticulously select the costume and the sofa. Using the hue/saturation slider in Photoshop, I then altered the colors a little. Notice how Myriam's reclined pose creates a diagonal line of her body. My settings for the portrait were 1/13, f/4, and 1000 ISO, and I used a tripod and a 24-105mm lens.
