Venetian carnival costumes seem to invite creative compositing, at least they do to me. In this image, I combined model Joyce Pittasi with an architectural niche I captured in the Kremlin. Framing a subject like this is often results in visually dynamic images. Joyce’s original costume was blue and cyan; in the hue/saturation dialog box in Photoshop, I moved the hue slider until the fabrics in her costume matched the surroundings. With the burn tool, I added a subtle shadow at the bottom of the dress on the floor because everything casts a shadow, even in directionless light. Shadows make a subject look 'grounded', as i it were really there in the first place. My settings for the architecture were 1/100, f/4, and 4000 ISO, and I use a 16-35mm wide angle lens. I photographed Joyce in Venice with a 24 - 105mm lens.
