In this 4-image composite, the background landscape and the ice shelf are both from Patagonia. The original calved glacial ice pointed skyward, and in Photoshop I rotated it 90 degrees to create a platform on which the model could stand. I photographed the young model in the 90's when I was working with a great makeup artist, Loalinda Bird, who created the clothes, hair, and makeup for the photo session. The model stood on a box to make her appear taller, and the fabric of the gown hid the box. I made a precise selection around the model using the pen tool and then, using Edit > paste, placed her on the ice. I then pasted in the snowy owl I captured during my workshop in Canada. The female owl was alighting on a fence post when I photographed it. I specifically placed the model on the far left side of the frame so the white owl would stand out against the dark clouds. The landscape was taken in Torres del Paine National Park in southern Chile.
