If there were a contest for the most adorable face in Africa, I think this little cheetah cub would definitely be a contender for first place. Even though the background is busy, I love this picture because the colors are so harmonious and that little face is just too sweet. The other thing that works for me here is the eye-level perspective. When you are shooting from a Land Rover and an animal is low to the ground, the subject appears to be at the same level as the camera if the vehicle is relatively far away and the lens is long. I used a 500mm Canon lens for this picture to 1) fill the frame with visual impact, and 2) to create the appearance of an eye-level portrait. The diffused light minimized contrast and prevented unwanted shadows on the cub. My settings were 1/640, f/7.1, and 800 ISO.
