While my photography group was photographing the Chicago skyline at twilight from the North Avenue Beach, fireworks were going off to the left of the skyline emanating from the Navy Pier. Unfortunately, the fireworks bursts were not positioned to make great pictures. So, I photographed the fireworks and then composited them in front of the buildings. This can be done by using the blend mode 'lighten' which eliminates the original dark sky in the background. My settings for the fireworks were 4 seconds, f/14, and 100 ISO, and I used a 500mm focal length. For the cityscape, my settings were .8 seconds, f/5.0, and 1600 ISO.
