Adding a texture to a photograph has to be done judiciously. If the texture you add is too pronounced it may eclipse the subject matter and defeat the purpose. In addition, some textures have various types of lines embedded in them, and then these are seen clearly -- such as in a sky -- they can be distracting. You can easily make high res texture images by photographing textured paper, sand paper, stucco, scuffed floor tiles, a piece of canvas, etc. I captured this portrait at a Civil War Battle Reenactment in Georgia.
