I spent last Sunday photographing some of the world's most incredible cars at the Amelia Island Concourse d'elegance in Florida, and it was truly a dazzling photographic experience. All of the cars were on grass, which is so much nicer than asphalt or concrete, but of course the backgrounds consisted of other spectators, cars, vendor booths, and other distracting elements. I replaced the backgrounds with landscapes from my photo library, and that elevated the images from documentary shots to fine art photographs.
Two of my favorite cars from the 350 cars on display were the 1941 Chrysler Newport Dual Cowl Phaeton, above, and the 1929 Duesenburg Convertible Sedan, below. These are not just cars . . . they are works of art. I am working on a coffee table book on classic cars, and these complement my growing collection of spectacular automobiles.
