This is a guanaco, a relative of the llama, and it's the main food source for wild pumas in Patagonia. The original photograph shows the animal against a rock cliff. In keeping with a style I am using more and more, I replaced the background with a sunrise shot of mountains in Torres del Paine National Park, Chile in which depth of field is complete throughout the picture even though I used a telephoto lens to capture the animal. Out of focus backgrounds are often very attractive because they direct all the attention on the subject. In my opinion, though, this kind of treatment takes a shot of a bird or animal to a new level. To select the animal and retain all that fine hair, I used Topaz Remask 5. My settings for the guanaco were 1/125, f/6.3, and 640 ISO. I've attached the original so you can see the difference.
