This is a spotted glass frog I photographed during one of my photo tours to Costa Rica. I used a 100-400mm Canon zoom set to 312mm to make the background completely out of focus. At the same time, I used a lens aperture of f/10 which gave me complete depth of field on the frog. As usual, I prefer soft and diffused lighting for macro photography because too much contrast, with the characteristic black shadows, reduces detail. I made the back of the camera — i.e. the plane of the digital sensor — parallel with the surface of the frog to help insure it was entirely sharp. My other settings were 1/500 and 8000 ISO. In post-processing, I used Topaz DeNoise AI to mitigate the noise.
