This is a juvenile king penguin in the process of losing its downy feathers and becoming an adult. I photographed it on South Georgia, and the background was not terrible but not great, either. So, using Topaz Mask AI to select the bird, I composited it on a piece of floating ice I captured from a Zodiac. Even with the sophistication of AI technology, the fine hair-like downy feathers on the top of the head lost some of their detail. To make up for that, I 'borrowed' the small, brown clump of feathers with a white background on the penguin's shoulder and, using the multiply blend mode and a layer mask, replaced the feathers where the top of the head meets the mountain and the clouds. To be this close to a penguin with what is apparently a wide angle lens would have been impossible. Interestingly, both images were taken with a telephoto, even though it doesn't look like that: 105mm for the background, and 165mm focal length for the king penguin. With Photoshop, pretty much anything is possible.
