Happy New Year! I hope this is a great year for all of you. For my first post of 2020, I've chosen one of my top five favorites from the many African safaris I've led. I captured this leopard in Sabi Sabi, a private game reserve adjacent to Kruger National Park in South Africa. My group was having breakfast when my guide spotted the leopard drinking from a waterhole below our terrace and about 300 feet away. We all forgot about breakfast, jumped into our Land Rovers, and drove around to the back of the lodge to get as close as possible. The leopard was still there, and he posed for us for a full 5 to 7 minutes. To make sure I got the full extension of the tongue, I used my fastest frame rate -- 14 fps. And I made sure my shutter speed was fast enough to prevent any kind of blur. My settings were 1/500, f/8, and 1000 ISO. I shot this with a 100-400mm Canon zoom set to 400mm.

Bob Turner - Great image, not like the usual captures.
