When I led a photo tour to Kazakhstan in 2017, my group spent an afternoon with a falconer. He actually had a number of birds of prey, including this eagle owl. We were able to capture great images of the raptors in flight. One of my favorite wing positions is shown here where the bird is alighting on a perch with its impressive wings outstretched and its intimidating talons forward. What I wasn't very happy with was the light. Midday sunlight in virtually all outdoor photographic situations is not as attractive as diffused light. In post-processing, I lightened the shadows and muted highlights which was the best that could be done given what I had to work with. My settings were 1/3200, f/11, and 1600 ISO.
