Photographing birds flying directly at the camera is a serious challenge, especially when using a log lens and especially when the bird is relatively close to the camera position. Critical focus changes every millisecond. I captured this great grey owl with a 500mm focal length, and the eye-tracking autofocus feature of my Canon R5 locked onto the bird's eyes in an instant, allowing me to get a tack sharp image. My settings were 1/3200, f/7.1, and 6400 ISO. I used Topaz DeNoise AI in post-processing to eliminate the excessive noise that resulted from the high ISO setting. This one software product has essentially revolutionized photography in that we can now shoot with super fast shutter speeds in low light, knowing that the requisite high ISO settings and the resulting noise can be mitigated after-the-fact.
