This is a 4-month old ocelot kitten I photographed in the jungle in Peru. Its mother had been killed by poachers, and the kind people at the lodge near Iquitos were raising it to be released back into the wild. They named her Lady T (for tigresa), and every evening at dinner she would climb up on my lap, then onto the table, and share my meal. I wanted to photograph Lady T in a natural environment, but the forest floor was exceedingly dark, almost like night. The only option was to use a flash to provide enough light for a fast enough shutter speed. The light fall-off was significant, as you can see. The only other possibility was to use available light and shoot at 25,000 ISO. I wanted a high-quality image so those incredible blue eyes would be ultra sharp. My settings were 1/125, f/8, and 200 ISO.
