This is the Church of St. John the Baptist at the edge of Lake Bohinj in the Julian Alps of Slovenia. Because sunrise occurs so early in Europe now, we had to leave the hotel at 4am and drive half an hour to be at the perfect spot at the perfect time. We were fortunate to have fog this morning because that made all the difference. This is a single frame capture with a 24-105mm lens, and my settings were 1/320, f/13, and 500 ISO. I rarely include an overhanging branch in my landscapes, but I felt it worked here. Note that the foreground branch as well as the distant landscape are both in focus. Nothing less would have been acceptable.

Jim - Good question, Steve. I was about12 feet from the branch. But keep in mind that I was using a wide angle lens -- in this case, 32mm on the 24-105mm lens. That helped with the depth of field, too.

Steve D - hi Jim, nice photo...
how far from the branch in the foreground were you standing, to be able to keep the branch and the church both in focus ???
Thanks
Steve D
