I am now in the Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia with my photo tour group. It is an amazing park with dozens of waterfalls, rivers, and clear blue lakes. This is my favorite view. The best way to photograph waterfalls, with few exceptions, is when the sky is overcast and contrast is at a minimum. My settings for this were .6 seconds, f/22, 100 ISO, and I used a 24-105mm lens. Note the low ISO and the small lens aperture because this forced the shutter to be slow enough to blur the falling water. I purposely didn't use a neutral density filter because if the shutter is too long, the water loses it's tonality and becomes, essentially, solid white.

Richard - Thanks Jim,I am really glad you munched the Mark IV because I thought that was the reason people would buy the IV over the Mark III was the ISO. But thank you so much for the info. I have the Mark III & will wait for a deal on the 1DX Mark III,best regards,Richard.

Jim - Hi Richard,
I don't have the Mark IV. The 1Dx Mark II has much better noise than the Mark III, but I haven't done a side by side comparison with the Mark IV. I can tell you, though, that the Mark IV has a very disappointing buffer. It fills up too fast, while the 1Dx Mark II keeps firing for as long as I need -- for example with running horses or flying birds.

Richard - Hey Jim,as usual,I really enjoyed your monthly publication on ISO. My question is does your Canon 1DXMark II have the same ISO as your Canon Mark 1V?. I though that the difference between the Canon Mark III & IV was the ISO? I tried to find out the answer to these question's at two of the local camera shop's & know one new the answer's? Many thanks for all your wonderful article's. Richard
