When I use a ring flash for macro work, as I did here during my semi-annual frog and reptile workshop in St. Louis, I usually clone out the reflection in the eye because it doesn't look natural. When the small animals we photograph during the workshop have intriguing eyes, I don't want the artificial looking catchlight to detract from the color, design, and texture in the eye. The green background is a large print of out of focus foliage, so no matter how small the lens aperture is, the background remains attractively soft so nothing is distracting behind the subject. My settings were 1/160, f/20, and 200 ISO, and I used a 50mm macro lens for the shot. My next frog and reptile workshop is June 11 and 12.
