Sunrise over Lake Bled in Slovenia this morning was beautiful. Since I had been here, the trees have grown and were almost blocking the bottom of the lake. In two or three years, they will be a problem unless the authorities here do some trimming. My photo tour group and I left the hotel at 4:20am to climb up the trail in order to gain this stunning overlook. I stood on a bench to get as much height as I could, but that meant using a tripod was impossible. So, this is a 5-frame HDR composite, hand held, and I used the fastest frame rate on my Canon 1Dx Mark II -- 14 fps -- to minimize movement between frames. This made the alignment process as easy as possible for the software. I used 500 ISO and f/16 along with daylight white balance for the settings. I put together the HDR composite in Photoshop. The star effect on the sun is from using a small lens aperture along with a wide angle lens -- 24mm in this case.

Jim - Richard, Yes, the 24-105mm lens. I have an 11.5 inch Mac that I carry with me. It's small enough to be portable and relatively light, and just large enough to do Photoshop.

Richard - I assume the lens 24-105? What lap top (brand & size) do you take for your long trips these days?.I can not believe you can find time (very much appreciated) to do these wonderful articles.Thank you very much,R.
