The dramatic blue interior of the Saints Cyril and Methodius Church in Ljubljana, Slovenia is Serbian Orthodox, and it takes your breath away as soon as you enter. Despite a huge chandelier, the interior is quite dark. Typical of virtually every cathedral in Europe, the contrast is significant because the light entering the lofty windows doesn't penetrate down to the many small recesses of the cavernous room. I shot this with a 24-105mm lens at the widest focal length, and since f/4 is the largest aperture available on this lens, the ISO had to be high. I used a 5-frame HDR series of images for this, and I had to make sure that the longest shutter speed wasn't causing blur since I was hand holding the camera. That meant the ISO was 6400. I planted my feet firmly on the floor, held my breath, and placed the center focal point on a design in the ceiling. I used the highest frame rate on my camera, which is 14 fps, in an effort to make it easy for Photoshop to align all of the frames insuring a sharp image. Hand holding a camera for HDR can only be done with wide angle lenses because the magnification of telephotos shows too much movement.
