I’m southern Argentina now to begin a photo tour to one of the great landscape destinations in the world -- Patagonia. Some of my group arrived today while others arrived yesterday, so the early arrivals and I went on a boat trip to see some of the nearby glaciers. Fortunately we had a rainy day, and I say that because the intense deep blue color of glacial ice photographs best in overcast light. Bright sun, essentially, makes good glacier photography impossible. The rain wasn’t a factor in the photography other than forcing me to be diligent in keeping the lens clean and free of rain drops. I shot on aperture priority at f/8 with a 100-400mm lens, and in post-processing I darkened the background a little to make the iceberg stand out dramatically. This was hand-held because a tripod on a boat doesn't make sense.

Bob Vestal - Thanks, Jim. Happens to me a lot, but you still got a very nice image. Jyl is doing better. I think that she finally has turned the corner on pain, and we are starting to taper meds. We wish you and all of you group members a wonderful experience in Patagonia.

Jim - Hi Bob, I miss you guys being here. I hope Jyl is feeling ok and that her arm is healing as painlessly as possible. Yes, my ISO was fairly high -- too high, actually. I used 1600, but I easily could have used 800. My shutter was 1/8000 because I wasn't paying attention!

Bob Vestal - Lovely! Jyl and I will be there in Patagonia with you in spirit. I am guessing your ISO was fairly high in order to assure that you had a reasonably fast shutter speed while still at f/8 in aperture priority.
