This is the most important temple in Myanmar, Schwedagon, taken at dusk with an ultra dramatic sunset sky that lingered for at least 15 minutes. I was able to take this shot from an elevated vantage because the hotel I was using had an open corridor on all the upper floors that overlooked the scene. I used a tripod, and my settings were 1.0 seconds, f/5.0, and 400 ISO. The sky didn't look this brilliant to my eyes; it was the long exposure that made it incredibly bright and saturated. At the time, I used a 100-400mm focal length set at 200mm. I did very little post-processing on this. The intense colors were there, they just needed a long exposure to bring them out. Note how I composed this. Many instructors teach that you should never place the subject in the middle of the frame, that off-center compositions (using the Rule of Thirds) are always better. I disagree. Sometimes an off-center composition looks good, and other times the central placement of a subject works best. Sometimes, of course, both can work.
