I am in Nepal now with another photo tour, and we have been photographing wildlife in Chitwan National Park. Yesterday we had three sightings of the Indian one horned rhinocerus, one of which was unusually close -- 20 feet away. The vegetation here is very thick, and we surprised the rhino as we passed her on the road -- and she surprised us, too. She had a baby with her, but in the dense thicket it was impossible to see the young animal because it was so low to the ground. I wanted depth of field here, and due to the closeness of the animal and the use of the 100-400mm lens, I chose aperture priority and f/16 for this shot. My shutter speed was 1/80 and the ISO 3200. The 170mm focal length tells you how close I was to the rhino.

Ian Cross - The new 100-400 sure is a versatile lens.Super sharp great for both sport and wildlife . Beats my old 400 5.6 for convenience and performance
