One of the most dynamic festivals I've ever photographed is the Jember Fashion Carnaval in Jember, Indonesia on the island of Java. The costuming is amazing, and the face decoration is so creative, so colorful, and so wild that it's a photographer's paradise. The latest trend is to incorporate visually arresting contact lenses as part of the facial design as you can see in this portrait of a young girl. My wife is able to obtain VIP passes for my entire photo tour group, and this gives us access to behind the scenes as the participants prepare for the main parade. We then have the best seats when hundreds of costumed young people dance to disco music as they pass the throngs of onlookers. My settings for this picture were 1/800, f/6.3, and 800 ISO. I took this shot with a 70-200mm lens.
