I photographed this beautiful costumed model in Jember, Indonesia, during the night procession. This shot is particularly interesting to me because two of the powerful lights illuminating the street scene were, at this moment, coming through the float on which the young girl was riding. One could argue the lights are distracting; they do draw the eye away from the subject to a certain degree. But I think they add visual drama and even excitement to the picture. A still photo doesn't have the dynamic movement that videos have, nor is it able to convey the pounding disco music that makes a scene like this so compelling. The two bright lights, though, imply the excitement of what I experienced by seeing this in person. My settings were 1/200, f/7.1, and 5000 ISO. I took this with the Canon 100-500mm lens set to 472mm. At full extension (to 500mm), the maximum aperture on this lens is f/7.1.
