When I visited Antarctica several years ago, I took a lot of background images for use as composites when I got home. Some of them can stand on their own as beautiful landscapes and seascapes, and others really couldn’t. This is a background I would say isn’t strong enough to seen as a successful nature shot by itself. However, with the addition of the king penguins, it now has a focal point. I photographed the birds on a beach with out of focus penguins behind them, so I used Topaz Mask AI to carefully select the subjects and then I placed them on floating piece of ice near a shoreline. I photographed the scene with a 14mm wide angle lens. My settings for the seascape were 1/320, f/22, and 200 ISO. The king penguins were photographed with a 70-200mm lens set to 200mm.
