This is a closeup portrait of a Canada lynx kitten taken during my wildlife workshop last weekend. Even though I'm a dog lover, there is something endlessly fascinating and totally captivating about cats. From big cats to little ones, their faces are beautiful, expressive, and they certainly hold one's attention. One thing I'd like to point out in this shot is the natural catchlight in the eyes. Some photographers insist on using fill flash with both animals and people because they say the flash adds a catchlight to the eyes. Yes, it does that, but it's not a natural look. A dot of light from a flash looks artificial. I understand that sometimes in low light, a flash is essential. But the reflection in the eyes is just not a natural one. My settings were 1/1000, f/6.3, and 2000 ISO, and I used a 100-400mm Canon zoom.
