The best wing formations for birds occur when they take off from a perch or when they land. They work their wings and tail feathers to ply the air, and I find it intriguing to watch this remarkable skill. This great grey owl was landing on a snowy meadow, and at 20 frames per second I was able to get several wonderful images. My settings were 1/3200, f/7.1, and 2000 ISO. Exposing for snow is no longer a challenge because, at least with mirrorless cameras, we can see the exposures in the viewfinder. I now shoot mostly with manual exposure mode and adjust the exposure by rotating the rear dial on the Canon R5 body which I've assigned to ISO.
