This is a caracal I photographed in Namibia on one of my photo tours here. The ear tufts of these beautiful cats give them a unique look, and sometimes they are called 'desert lynx' although they are not part of the lynx family. I was very lucky in this instance to catch the last rays of sunlight in the late afternoon illuminating the cat's face and lightening the beautiful yellow eyes. In post-processing I darkened the background to direct more attention to the subject. Even with an animal sitting, I use a fast frame rate so I don't miss a sudden turn of the head, a fleeting expression, or a glint of low angled light. My settings for this picture were 1/800, f/5.6, and 1000 ISO.
