I have photographed the lavender fields of Provence, France three times, and each time a storm came through with dramatic clouds. This field of flowers was near Valensole, and I found it to be particularly photogenic because of the repetitive curves. To gain an elevated perspective here, I carefully climbed on top of my car since I didn't have a ladder or a drone. Even a few feet in height can make a big difference in terms of composition and graphic design. I shot this with a 70-200mm medium telephoto mounted on a tripod, and my settings were 1/30, f/10, and 640 ISO. I captured this in early July; as the flowers grow larger toward the middle of the month, the dirt between the rows disappears from view and all you can see is an ocean of purple.
