One of the most unique and beautiful animals I've photographed is this leafy sea dragon. They live in shallow water off the southern coast of Australia. I photographed this one in the Atlanta Aquarium in Georgia. When I shoot in an aquarium, I place the front of the lens up against the glass (a rubber lens hood is ideal when doing this to protect the lens as well as the glass or Plexiglas of the aquarium) because this eliminates reflections from overhead light sources and windows behind me as well as the reflection from an on-camera flash. I also try to photograph such that the lens axis is as perpendicular to the glass as possible because this provides maximum sharpness. As soon as the lens is oblique to the surface of the glass, image quality is degraded. I used flash for the exposure, and my settings were 1/125, f/7.1, and 800 ISO.
