I photographed this vulturine guineafowl in Kenya with a 500mm lens. I've been to Africa about 20 times, and I only have two good pictures of these birds. They are very hard to photograph because they are skittish, constantly in motion, and rarely allow a close approach. And when they walk away from the vehicle, their blue chest feathers are obscured. If they are close, shooting down on them from an elevated seat in a Land Rover doesn't produce a good image. Using a long lens helps mitigate that downward angle because the lens is somewhat parallel with the ground. This simulates an eye-level view. In the original capture, I cropped the lower portion of the legs because I wanted to fill the frame more with those incredible blue feathers. My settings were 1/320, f/4.5, and 200 ISO.
