When you take a picture in which the sun is included in the composition, there is nothing you can do to eliminate lens flare at the time of shooting. You can only get rid of it after-the-fact by cloning it out in Photoshop. I use mostly the healing brush for that, but sometimes content aware and the cloning tool are useful as well. If you compose ther shot such that the sun is just outside the frame, then a lens hood should help eliminate the flare or you can even use a hand to block the sun from striking the front glass element of the lens. I took this 14mm shot at Deadvlei in Namibia.
