On my last trip to a private game reserve adjacent to Kruger National Park, my photo tour group witnessed two hyenas chasing a female leopard with two cubs. They were after the cubs, so the mother protected her babies by telling them (apparently in leopard-ese) to climb a tree. Hyenas don't climb trees. This shot shows one of the young cubs about 25 feet off the ground out of the reach of the two predators. I took this with a 400mm focal length, and the settings were 1/400, f/7.1, and 1000 ISO. One of the great benefits of private reserves, as opposed to national parks and national game reserves, is the Land Rovers can drive anywhere on the property to get close to animals. There are no restrictions, and because there are so few vehicles in these reserves, the environment isn't negatively impacted.
