When I last led a photo tour to Mongolia, I wanted to do a portrait indicative of this region's past and, at the same time, I wanted to show the vastness of the Asian steppes. So I arranged to photograph this young lady dressed in the attire of a 13th century Mongolian queen, and she actually came with my photo tour group as I looked for the kind of location I wanted. For this image, I used a 24mm focal length, and the settings were 1/50, f/20, and 400 ISO. Both the wide angle lens and the small aperture gave me the depth of field that rendered both the foreground and the background sharp. I set this up in the late afternoon so if the sun were out, the low angled sunlight would look good, and if the sky were overcast, that would work, too.
