This is a sunrise shot of Monument Valley. The elevated view is from Hunt’s Mesa. The compression of the sandstone formations came from using a 90mm focal length. When shooting at sunrise or sunset, I always use daylight white balance which accurately records the golden tones we see with our eyes. If you use AWB, the original golden colors will be neutralized. They can be recovered in post-processing, but you won’t see them on the LCD screen on the back of the camera at the time of shooting. Instead, your images will look bland and uninspiring because the camera ‘corrects’ the red/yellow tones and makes them neutral. My settings were 1/80, f/8, and 200 ISO. I used a tripod, turned the IS (VR) feature off, and instead of using a mirror-lockup cable, I used the 2-second self-timer feature built into the camera to protect against unwanted vibration or jarring when my finger pushed the shutter button.
